Greening events

Greening the event
Dear conference participants,

In GiGa (ESCI-UPF) we look into developing projects to promote improved environmental performance of products and services, and we also take care about the way we do it. For that reason, we are convinced that the best way to transfer this message to our partners is to start with oneself. Our will is to make of the FENIX conference an example of minimization and correct waste management of the generated waste, prioritizing the use of recycled, reusable and recyclable materials. To achieve this goal and green this event, the following guidelines have been considered while planning the event:

  • Documentation related to the invitation and registration has been handled online, avoiding the use of paper and bulk mailings. When printing was necessary, documents have been released using 100% recycled, recyclable and biodegradable paper, totally chlorine free (TCF) pulp certified by the Blue Angel in Germany and the European eco-label. The material that will be distributed to the attendants has been ecodesigned, so they can be reused as folders to store documents.
  • We have also looked into greening the catering offered to the participants. We have chosen menus that prioritize local and organic food, avoiding where possible the use of unnecessary packaging. All crockery is reusable, and special attention has been payed in order to avoid the use of one use only containers and small formats.
  • During the conference and all around the venue, we have allocated and marked different containers to collect the different types of waste that can be generated during the conference.
  • At the end of the conference, we invite you to return your badge in a specific container, so that they can be reused for future events.
By the end of the conference, our team will quantify the amount of waste that has been generated and communicate the savings in terms of environmental impact of all these efforts. We strongly invite you therefore to support us to make this event a Green Event and do not hesitate to contact us to assist you in this goal.

Thank you very much for your collaboration and let’s make of this day a profitable event for us all.
